Emergence

Poster for Emergence Exhibition

Back in the spring I was invited to join the Dorset Visual Arts “Emerging Artist Programme” and over the course of the summer I have been attending meetings at The Museum of Dorset along with an interesting group of artists. We have had workshops, group crits and one to one mentoring sessions with arts development producer, Becca Russell.

I really have enjoyed hearing about the other artists ways of working and sharing ideas and leave with friends and colleagues.

This opportunity came a great time for me. Over the last few years, I have gradually been shifting from being a round-the-clock carer and home educator towards being a full-time artist. Attending these sessions has given me greater confidence to talk about my work and regard myself in a professional manner. It has given me time to assess my progress and plan the next steps.

The culmination of the programme is a group exhibition at the museum. Pieces from each artist are being displayed together from 22nd September until the 9th of October.

It’s nearly 30 years since I studied Fine Art at the University of Brighton and the art world has changed a lot in that time! Over the course of this programme I feel I have bridged that gap and am really excited about my future.
